Fire fighters try to save RVs and boats from flames
News from KRDO:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Firefighters tried to save recreational vehicles and boats from the flames at an early morning fire at an RV and boat storage lot.

The fire started around 4:30 Friday morning on Panonia Street near Powers Boulevard and Galley Road at Peak View Storage.  It took crews 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Matt Love, Cimarron Hills Fire Chief, said 10 to 15 RVs and boats were damaged in the fire. Most of the units damaged were a total loss.

“They’re very close together, so when the fire starts in one, it moves to the rest of those fairly quickly,” said Love. “We were able to force entry into [some of] them and extinguish the fire before it took out everything in the trailer.”

With the recreational boating season soon to be in full swing, Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 35 is doing what it can to keep people safe on the water.

Bob McNally and his family are avid boaters. They know all too well how scary it can be when things go wrong on the water.

“I’ve been in some unsafe situations. I’ve had a couple of boats sink underneath me,” said McNally. “To have proper boating equipment on board can save your life. It’s not just your life; it’s your family’s life, too.”

Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 35 began doing courtesy safety checks 20 years ago by inspecting fire extinguishers, life jackets, first aid kits, flares and more. They’re also advising people to take along a fully charged cell phone in case they need to call for help.

Another tip is to always let someone back on land know where you’re going and when you’ll be back, so if you run into t…………… continues on WLOX
