BoatUS Launches Peer-to-Peer Boat Insurance Program

BoatUS Launches Peer-to-Peer Boat Insurance Program
News from Insurance Journal:

BoatUS has launched a boat rental insurance policy available for rentals through Boatbound, a nationwide boat rental marketplace. The new Peer-to-Peer Boat Rental Policy covers the rental period and is designed specifically to meet the needs of this new and growing market.

According to BoatUS Assistant Vice President Ed Holownia, most recreational boat insurance policies don’t provide coverage during a rental. “For boats to become a viable part of the sharing economy, the insurance question had to be addressed,” he said.

Now three years old and with thousands of boats listed across the US, Boatbound has been the fastest-growing company in the boat sharing market, according to BoatUS.

Boatbound’s average renter is between 25 and 44 years old with five or more years of boating experience.

“Boatbound is fundamentally changing boating,” said Boatbound Founder Aaron Hall. “Finding a boat is now as easy as finding a hotel, and boat owners can share their boat when it’s not in use to offset boat, slip, and maintenance costs turning their boats into assets.”

With the new Peer-to-Peer Boat Rental Policy, BoatUS offers coverage to renters and protection to owners for rentals arranged through Boatbound.

Boat owners wishing to rent their boat through Boatbound must have an underlying recreational boat insurance policy……………. continues on Insurance Journal

4 Things You Should Know About Boat Insurance
News from Cape Gazette:

So you just picked up your new boat and you’re anxious to hit the water and feel the fresh air on your skin as you navigate many of the lakes and streams the world has to offer. Before you take your boat out on the water, you need to be sure you are properly protected if the unthinkable happens. Boat insurance is one of the best ways to make sure you are covered in the event of an accident when you are out on the water.

1. Why get boat insurance?

Many new boaters believe that a homeowners policy will cover their boat as well. Unfortunately, that is often not the case. You want to be sure your new investment remains safe if something happens, and you also want to make sure your financial assets are protected in case there is an accident and you are at fault. To do this, you must purchase an insurance policy on your new boat.

On average, the prices for boat insurance range from a few hundred dollars to over $ 1,000, depending on the type of boat and your personal history. Prices on your boat insurance can depend on a number of factors including:

Type of Boat

Size of Boat

Size of the Engine of the Boat

Expected Use of the Boat

Your Personal Profile

News from Digital Journal:

Philadelphia, PA — (ReleaseWire) — 03/23/2015 — While the benefits of purchasing automobile insurance have been loudly touted from every rooftop across the U.S., boating enthusiasts have not been as luckily inundated. Fortunately, most of the benefits are aligned with those for vehicles, with one caveat. Repairing or replacing a damaged boat can be tremendously expensive, often costing multiple times more than the average car repair. Don’t wait until after an accident happens and the costs are mounting to purchase Philadelphia boat insurance, let the Bachmann-Zeitlin Insurance Agency provide protection before it’s too late.

Jumping on their soapbox to make sure boat owners no longer have an informational disadvantage, the agency announces the benefits of buying one of their policies. Record cold increases insurance claims by Chesapeake boaters

Record cold increases insurance claims by Chesapeake boaters
News from Trade Only Today:

Posted on February 27th, 2015

Boat insurance claims are rising in the Chesapeake Bay area as frigid weather and ice have sunk some boats.

The yacht Just Hanging Out was one of the casualties of winter Tuesday afternoon when it sank at Pier 7 Marina in Edgewater, Md.

Mike Haskell, the owner of Harbor Diving & Salvage, told the (Annapolis) Capital Gazette that his business has been called to service three boats that have taken on water in the last week in Edgewater and Annapolis.

Beth Leonard, technical director at Alexandria, Va.-based BoatUS, which insures boats in all 50 states, predicted that the company will see more claims from the frigid Chesapeake Bay area this year.

“This year, I think, is going to be a particularly bad year,” Leonard said. “The more days below freezing, the heavier the snowfall, the more the claims.”

Tony Scrivener, owner of Fifty-Fifty Yacht Services, predicted that more boats will sink as the weather warms.

“Everybody’s become complacent with these mild winters,” Scrivener said. “More boats are sinking and will continue to sink as things thaw out.”

NMMA announces details of 2016 Progressive Insurance Miami International …
News from Boating Industry:

MIAMI – Starting on Tuesday, with a meet and greet and tour of the new site for the NMMA Executive Committee and officials from the City of Miami, NMMA kicked off a series of announcements for what’s to come in 2016 at the new site of the Miami International Boat Show: Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin.

During the meet and greet, NMMA staff and executives, alongside Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and members of the City of Miami commission, held a groundbreaking for the new site and learned about construction plans. Located on Virginia Key, just across from downtown Miami, Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin is known as one of the most beloved and historic boating destinations in the world.

The City of Miami will be investing $ 16 million to rejuvenate the Park and Basin. Additionally, NMMA will build customized docks and erect state-of-the-art tents to accommodate exhibitors. The vast area of water, which is the size of the Washington Mall, can accommodate at least 700 slips and will also be able to house large boats in a deep water basin. On land, large, cutting-edge tent structures will be both air-conditioned and open-air and will span Marine Stadium Park.

Other elements of the new site announced by NMMA include more parking, the availability of water taxis from ports and hotels from throughout Miami that will be…………… continues on Boating Industry
