BoatUS Launches Peer-to-Peer Boat Insurance Program

BoatUS Launches Peer-to-Peer Boat Insurance Program
News from Insurance Journal:

BoatUS has launched a boat rental insurance policy available for rentals through Boatbound, a nationwide boat rental marketplace. The new Peer-to-Peer Boat Rental Policy covers the rental period and is designed specifically to meet the needs of this new and growing market.

According to BoatUS Assistant Vice President Ed Holownia, most recreational boat insurance policies don’t provide coverage during a rental. “For boats to become a viable part of the sharing economy, the insurance question had to be addressed,” he said.

Now three years old and with thousands of boats listed across the US, Boatbound has been the fastest-growing company in the boat sharing market, according to BoatUS.

Boatbound’s average renter is between 25 and 44 years old with five or more years of boating experience.

“Boatbound is fundamentally changing boating,” said Boatbound Founder Aaron Hall. “Finding a boat is now as easy as finding a hotel, and boat owners can share their boat when it’s not in use to offset boat, slip, and maintenance costs turning their boats into assets.”

With the new Peer-to-Peer Boat Rental Policy, BoatUS offers coverage to renters and protection to owners for rentals arranged through Boatbound.

Boat owners wishing to rent their boat through Boatbound must have an underlying recreational boat insurance policy……………. continues on Insurance Journal

Thunderstorms complicate recovery effort following huge explosions at China’s …
News from Minneapolis Star Tribune:

TIANJIN, China — Thunderstorms Tuesday complicated recovery efforts from last week’s massive explosions at a warehouse in China’s Tianjin port that killed at least 114 people, left 57 missing and exposed dangerous chemicals — including some that could become flammable on contact with water.

Experts have expressed concern that rain could spread some of the vast quantities of hazardous material at the site or set off chemical reactions sparking further explosions. Rain began falling mid-morning, but there was no immediate word of new blasts.

Underscoring the weakness of China’s system of industrial safety, the head of the national organization responsible for those efforts has been placed under investigation for suspected “severe violation of discipline and law” — standard shorthand for corruption — the ruling Communist Party’s anti-graft watchdog said Tuesday.

No details were given about the allegations against Yang Dongliang, who was appointed head of the State Administration of Work Safety three years ago and also worked in state industry and local government in Tianjin for 18 years, including as a vice mayor from 2001 to 2012.

The storms began shortly after residents, firefighters, police, medical staff and officials held a moment of silence marking the sixth day since the disaster, the first observance in the 49…………… continues on Minneapolis Star Tribune

Goat on a Boat Grows Up
News from East Hampton Star:

Liz Joyce and her Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre will move to Bay Street Theater in September. Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre

The Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre, which has occupied the lower level of the Christ Episcopal Church parish house in Sag Harbor since 2001, will move to Bay Street Theater this fall.

“We’re growing up a little bit,” said the Goat’s founder, Liz Joyce. The not-for-profit puppet theater has become a mainstay for parents of young children who had few options for fun and entertainment when it first opened 14 years ago. Now Ms. Joyce not only performs at the theater but also takes her puppets on the road to venues across the South Fork and beyond, while also hosting visiting puppet troupes and performers from around the Northeast.

Joining forces with Bay Street “frees me to be more creative,” Ms. Joyce said over the phone Tuesday from the National Puppetry Festival in Connecticut. At Bay Street, Goat on a Boat can mount a variety of shows it could not accommodate before. Case in point: The introductory show, “Everybody Loves Pirates,” which Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers of Bar Harbor, Me., will present at Bay Street next Thursday at 11 a.m.

“I always wanted to have them at Goat on a Boat, but they couldn’t fit,” Ms. Joyce said. Bay Street…………… continues on East Hampton Star

4 Things You Should Know About Boat Insurance
News from Cape Gazette:

So you just picked up your new boat and you’re anxious to hit the water and feel the fresh air on your skin as you navigate many of the lakes and streams the world has to offer. Before you take your boat out on the water, you need to be sure you are properly protected if the unthinkable happens. Boat insurance is one of the best ways to make sure you are covered in the event of an accident when you are out on the water.

1. Why get boat insurance?

Many new boaters believe that a homeowners policy will cover their boat as well. Unfortunately, that is often not the case. You want to be sure your new investment remains safe if something happens, and you also want to make sure your financial assets are protected in case there is an accident and you are at fault. To do this, you must purchase an insurance policy on your new boat.

On average, the prices for boat insurance range from a few hundred dollars to over $ 1,000, depending on the type of boat and your personal history. Prices on your boat insurance can depend on a number of factors including:

Type of Boat

Size of Boat

Size of the Engine of the Boat

Expected Use of the Boat

Your Personal Profile

News from Digital Journal:

Philadelphia, PA — (ReleaseWire) — 03/23/2015 — While the benefits of purchasing automobile insurance have been loudly touted from every rooftop across the U.S., boating enthusiasts have not been as luckily inundated. Fortunately, most of the benefits are aligned with those for vehicles, with one caveat. Repairing or replacing a damaged boat can be tremendously expensive, often costing multiple times more than the average car repair. This is especially true for boat owners who do not live near an experienced boat repair shop, as the transportation costs can quickly reach hundreds of dollars. Don’t wait until after an accident happens and the costs are mounting to purchase Philadelphia boat insurance, let the Bachmann-Zeitlin Insurance Agency provide protection before it’s too late.

Jumping on their soapbox to make sure boat owners no longer have an informational disadvantage, the agency announces the benefits of buying one of their policies. As the weather becomes more and more pleasant, boat owners will begin to slip their watercraft into the Delaware River and the Atlantic coast’s bays and waterfront locations, intent on a relaxing c…………… continues on Digital Journal
